Make a pad!

Hi guys
Im back with more questions! I am nearly done on my guitar. Still need to install
the left knee levers and do the rodding. Now back to the pad! What would be
a good base pc. to use and any other suggestions for making the pad?
I will be posting some pics. in the near future.

Wayne, what I use is a 1/4" piece of hard maple. This offers the stiffness you want. Plywood is too flexible. Use semi-dense foam and some quality car upholstery.

Yes, i like your idea with the hard maple! Also i plan to attach the pad with
velcro. Thanks for your insite about this!

Bent's reference to "stiffness" is a good one. If you want to eliminate this problem and not have to spring for an expensive piece of maple - or other hardwood - then you could always put in some small "tee-nuts" (6-32 or 8-32 thd) in the plywood base material - before the foam and cloth - and then mount it with small machine screws from inside of the cabinet. It'll be a permanent installation. The only advantage to the velcro technique that I see is that it would be much easier to really clean the entire top of the guitar whenever you change strings. Just a thought.

I agree with Richard - I have tried Velcro and it might come loose due to the adhesive. Plus, the two strips make for too high a space
I just use 6 #6 screws up thru the deck

Guys
I could recess the base pc. where the velcro goes and the pad would sit down
tite to the deck, however i am just considering the different ways to make
and mount the pad. To mount it with small screws up thru the bottom sounds
like a good idea too!

I used 4 strips of 1"-wide double-sided tape to mount my pad.
3M has a thick (1/32"?) jelly-like tape (red backing) with very good adhesive properties (Canadian Tire).
You have to use a putty trowel to remove it after mounting.
This would be only if you mounted it wrong the first time.
I don't take the pad off for cleaning since it would be a lot of trouble for nothing.
You could also use 1"x1" pieces of tape instead of screws.

[I also use very small pieces of this tape to keep pictures straight on the wall.]
