Hi guys
I am going to re-mica my Zum, and need to lay my hands on some aluminium strip to go on the front and rear aprons. Any ideas where I can source a stock from?
Many thanks
Ken

I am looking for some too....
Storm, I checked on Online Metals and the smallest I could find was 1/8"X1/2" and I could use some 1/16"X 3/8"
I could mill some out of thicker stock but it's a waste, plus I know from experience that it wants to curl when milled down that thin. Any more suggestions?

Same here Bent - I want 1/16" x 3/8". I've tried all over to get some.

That is close Stormy. It is anodised, and would need to be both trimmed to width and polished to remove the anodised finish. I guess the major manufacturers must buy this trim in from external suppliers to order. Certainly it looks as though you can't buy it off the shelf anywhere.

Anodizing is harder than Japanese arithmetic isn't it? It will maybe take a lot of polishing to get rid of it.
Just thought of something. What if I try this: Waste a 1/4"X2" flat bar...mill a desired width down to the desired thickness, say 1/16" then cutting to exact width on the table saw. That way the thin piece might keep its straight shape without curling.
I'll try it once I get some time to spare...whenever that might be.

Mcmaster Carr is always my first stop for something like this:
6061 .5" wide X .063" x 6'thick

A very big thank you to Dave Wheelhouse for fabricating 2 aluminium strips of the right dimensions for me. Very much appreciated.
