Are those truss rods supposed to counteract string tension and subsequent wood-bending?

Yes that is the intention, Georg was it not you that used fence wire on one of your steels to see if it made any difference with cab drop?

The real bottom line for me at least is FUN FUN FUN and it keeps the retired grey matter well engaged.

Yes, I used fence wire to test if I could counteract string tension and subsequent body-drop ... first on my Dekley back in the late 80s before modding it, and more recently on a GFI Ultra now left down in Florida. Worked quite well on both, but made those PSGs look awful (even to me ).
