Length of the keyhead
What is the usual length for a keyhead for example an Emmons keyhead.
Re: Length of the keyhead
I dont know the length of an 'Emmons' key head, but the one I have made for my 'project' is approximately 6 1/2".
Dont know if this helps.

I was just comparing some different sizes of keyheads. Thanks
Re: Length of the keyhead
My keyhead is 6 3/8". Like Ron is hinting, you make the keyhead to suit your own purpose. The way I reason is: from roller to first and 10th key shaft I like a big length as possible to make more of a gentle slope for the strings that are closest to the nut. So the cutout here is 1.6" then, going by preferred distances between keys for my fingers to fit ok, I found out that a bit over one inch is good (going by the Sperzels that I prefer.) Then for the cutout for the 5th and 6th string keys, I have the same length as the start. This makes for nice symmetry in my mind and also allows for the 3/8" cross piece at the end.
