Georg -
For whatever its' worth, I'm also your cheerleader. I sincerely hope that your floating neck configuration works in grand fashion.

Re: "The Beast" - And Other Good Pertinent Stuff
Richard, thanks.
As I see it: my old construction/modification is doing quite well even if it is bogged down by the changer, so I can't see any reason why my new construction that won't have that drawback should not do even better.
I will be wasting some sonic qualities by insisting on a mostly regular-looking keyhead instead of going keyless, but as long as I can dampen out the noise back there it should not be much of a loss.

I have been considering caving in to the "traditionalist" look for the keyhead while combining it with the advantages of keyless system mechanics. Bunches of bright and shiney home-brew keys coupled to long levers, etc.. Seems like a lot of work - but for what? Looks?
It ain't engraved in stone yet.

Re: "The Beast" - And Other Good Pertinent Stuff
Richard,
I happen to prefer to tune strings using regular tuning gears. If in the end I can't stand the shine, light sand-blasting and a can of black spray-paint will fix that problem.
The only problem I'm left with then is the wasted length of string. If I could put regular tuning gears in a row without compromising the string-spacing or -lines, I would.
