Wayne, you are a man after our hearts: inventive and cheap :) Great thinking. Those reamer shafts are also polished to a high degree. Ready made for your purpose. Now you have only one problem remaining: How are you going to cut that Rockwell 60? I have been told that you cannot work it. Only thing that will cut it is by grinding. Maybe a 1/8" cut-off wheel in an angle grinder? Maybe a metal cutting disk in a rotary tool? Don't really know...

You make a good point indeed!(how do i cut it?) I will look into it and see if there
is a good way! I Thought it would make a great changer axle, And i always look
for ways to save a buck if possible!

Wayne, if you have a angle grinder, get a thin cut off blade, as thin as you can get, and it will cut it right off. Be carefull as you go because you can break the wheel very easy....Mike

Thanks for this info! Those blades are readily available and this could be the ticket!

Mike, is there any chance of wrecking the temper in the steel from heat generated by the cut-off disk?

Bent, probably should put in water every little bit to make sure, if it did it would be the area that holds the axel in place. Cooling it would make sure......Mike

I've thought of buying a mechanics socket extention and cutting it up. I'll be taking my micrometer and a finger to town tomorrow to check it out. They look good on the shelf anyway.

Thats another idea! Could make several axles! I guess you and i are the same,
Take one thing and turn it in to something else! (or are we just cheap?)
Let me know how you make out with that!

In my case probably cheap, tight, squeaky and anything else you can think of. I'll let you know how I make out.
