Re: My First Build Update

Dave about making pedals without a mill.... figure out a way to make individual parts ie hollow pipe for axle hole, arm for pedal arm and pad for pedal then you screw and or weld these together. Get lined up with a good welder and he will TIG weld it for you. It would cost less than what you expect....

Re: crossrod size

LaVern, Wow GFI used 5/16" aluminum ? That should be good enough proof that alu is strong enough. Do they also have a post in the middle of a long cross shaft?(or a rail maybe) This is important since there is a wee bit of flexing when activating a knee lever. I feel a marked difference in the KL wi...

Re: crossrod size

5/16 steel is ok but overkill IMHO. Too heavy for one thing. I use 3/8" aluminum which I find to be adequate. I do use support posts in the middle so they don't flex when activated.

Ross is correct on all points! I'll struggle on with the manual. But hey, I got automatic feed! How's that for modern?

Wow. Wow. Wow. I immediately see the difference between manual and CNC. Great work Ross. I am very envious.

Re: D-008 (for now)

HI yall thanks for the nice comments. Yes, Richard, I am a chip accumulator. Just took a bunch to the junk yard and got $60 for it. Thought to save it for getting into home foundry but so far no luck with that - no time! Ross, Yes, it is basically how I do it, with a template made out of 3/4" maple,...

D-008 (for now)

The D stands for Double 10. Thought I would attempt a D10 this time. Trying my hand at aluminum necks as well. Uncharted territory so wish me luck! These pics show the hollowing out of the underside. Pretty hard to cut on a slant (or curve) with a manual mill..this is what CNC's are made for!I plan ...

Re: Where / how do you attach the lower-return stop plate?

Georg, I just mentioned your adjustable stop plate in comparison to tuneable split screws. Using screws instead of a stop plate would do the same thing as the plate, only this would then be adjustable for each individual string. Same idea as splits only in a different location. I never did suggest y...
