Re: RogerDodger from BenRom

Richard - halfstop on a pedal? wow. I don't know of course, and I am not saying it will not work. And I agree we need all the help we can get. I am not set against them, I merely quoted what my research has shown me about builders abandoning them and also my own experience. I am talking about the 2n...

Re: RogerDodger from BenRom

Thanks Ron, Thanks Mike.
Ron are you sure you want a feel stop? Many, if not most builders are doing away with them. There is usually no problem feeling the extra detent against the finger once the second pull is activated

Re: Fret positions

Hey Ron thanks for the tips. Oh yes, I'll try some more. When I see something interesting I gotta try it right away. It usually ends in failure the first time. TYhis time I got a HUUUUGE fretboard printed on 6 pages! Oh well, I needed some scratch sheets for the shop anyway :-)

Re: Fret positions

Ron, thanks! I just made a test printout and it turned out way big. So it will take some experimentation and trial&error BTW--does anyone here have any experience with silk screening? That would be the cat's meow. In fact, one person could service all here on the forum. The results are super and in ...

Re: Casting - Home foundry

Richard I believe maxi addressed your concern. I agree with him. Casting is not for one-offs - I thought that part was clear..too much preparatory work etc etc. You're not picky - it's good to get all those concerns ironed out.

Re: Casting - Home foundry

Another consideration is the fact that your materials for pouring will cost you next to nothing. I would collect all scrap aluminum from making parts out of extruded. As an example, I have 4 heavy grocery bags full of shavings from this current project. Plus scrap cutoffs etc. Some say aluminum pour...

Re: Casting - Home foundry

Richard, Good questions - all of them. I am no authority but am more than willing to give you my take...and the experts can correct me. Time: say that I am set up with a home foundry - I believe I could set one up for say $300 +- say that I have the knowledge so I don't waste time figuring how to do...

Casting - Home foundry

A totally fascinating subject that deserves it's own thread. There have been questions of late, how to go about foundry techniques, and a precious few have authoritative knowledge on the subject. I for one, would love to acquire more knowledge on this. ShoBud asked some great questions recently. We ...

Re: Have you ever cast your own parts

Ron, thanks for that valuable tip! Ok..so say you take sinks into the equation...would it suffice if I cast the piece 1/8" over-thickness?
Educate me :-)
