Re: PSG legs?

Just wondered if you knew about the legs I use. Aluminum adjustable handle snow brushes or car wash brushes. They are light, strong, and have a nice clutch mechanism inside. I've used dozens of them. Get the ones (the most normal size) that are 7/8" OD for the big pipe and 3/4" for the smaller pipe....

Re: And yet....another humbucker

Hi Eldon, Thanks for the comments. The pickups work great, love the sound, and they are QUIET, man are they quiet. The red tuners. Yes, those are hard plastic masonry anchors I get at Canadian Tire. Made by Red Head in the states. Come 50 in a box for about $4.00 with the tax. They're 1" long with a...

Re: Project: keyhead changer on knife-edges

Hi guys.... I get the idea sort of for this changer. Very clever. I'm like Bent though, can't understand this keyhead slider thing. Is it like a keyless string attachment part?. And along the top will be a sliding piece with a screw adjustment or something. If that's the case I can see this working ...

Re: Band Saw Question

Sure you can cut thick aluminum with any small bandsaw. Like Bent says, I've also cut 3/4" stuff with it (6061 grade). I use a 3/8" blade with 6 TPI and it works fine for me. Being the cheapskate that I am I even sharpen my blades after awhile. I use a broken off piece of a round needle file in my D...

Re: Stupid question

That would be a pretty ambitious project for sure. I seriously doubt that any construction plans for a guitar like that are out there anywhere, but hey, what do I know.
Of course you could always sell your car and buy a Promat, folks say it's pretty close to an Emmons push/pull

Cheers,
Mac

Re: Reaming Holes

Why would you want to ream the holes? Shouldn't a 1/2" axle fit in a 1/2" hole? Or a 3/8" axle in a 3/8" hole? If the hole is a smidgen small just spin the axle with a drill etc. and sand it down a tiny bit.
Cheers,
Mac

Re: Double changer idea

Bent... How would you propose to fit a bearing on the end of that screw? I had thought some of something like that but it'd be a lot of extra work. I thought also of a small ball trapped in the end of a small threaded tube with a spring inside to hold it against the finger, and screw the tuning scre...

Re: Double changer idea

Hi Gary....thanks for the drawing. I too wondered about the tuning screw sliding along the finger. I just played around with the test bed pieces to see if there was a problem with that. There is none. I have right now an "E" string on there (4th). I can lower it a whole tone to a "D" and the finger ...

Re: Double changer idea

Pat...I'm not sure what you mean by a back and forth system, or if you're refering to something else altogether. Anyway, a double changer system, if you can get it to work right is way better than anything else in my opinion. As far as having a raise and a lower on the same string and getting it to ...

Re: Double changer idea

Bent... Burt's math makes a lot of sense. And your practical application of that makes it easier for us to actually make the slots right. In the last 40+ years I've repaired/restored many hundreds of acoustic and electric guitars. On acoustics I often make new bone saddles. I NEVER put any grooves i...
