Re: A ZB E6/9th guitar

Thanks guys for the kind words and the valuable opinions. I realize that a regular 12 string steel with 4/5 could be rodded pretty much any way you want if you've got all the bits & pieces on it to do that. My thought was to build it and set it up as an E6/9 with the pedals and levers actuating the ...

Re: Casting end plates

Oh...I was going to mention. I've got at least a 50 lb. box of small aluminum bits under my bench, leftovers from steel building. Probably enough to cast a whole guitar in one piece, LOL

Re: Casting end plates

You clever man! Casting is something I know NOTHING about. Never seen it done, never tried it....nothing. I don't suppose you'd be able to take a few more pictures as you go through the process eh? Then again you probably wouldn't have the time or the opportunity to do that as you work through the p...

A ZB E6/9th guitar

Posting this thread might not be such a great idea....but here goes anyway. I just sold yesterday my last MK SD10 birdseye guitar. Now I've just got my own one to play on. I've been really intrigued by Zane Kings E6/9 tuning on both 10 and 12 string guitars. I retuned and fiddled around with that se...

Re: Safety

Most of the people that build pedal steels also play them. You need all your fingers.....and it's so easy to be lax when working in your shop with power tools. You don't even need to be working with power tools to get hurt. I was pounding a 2" sprocket off a shaft one time in the vise. One in a mill...

Re: How to make bellcranks?

Yes, you're right on the 4 jaw chuck. No matter, think I'll stick with the round shafts anyway, and grind flats along them. Works for me.
Thanks,

Re: Using Rods For Nuts & Bridges

My guess is that you'd have to chop 1/4" off the fretboard at the nut end to make it correct. I remember about a year or so ago getting into a major discussion on the SGF about this subject. Theoretically if you sat exactly behind the bar on each fret then exactly over the fret marking would be the ...

Re: My prototype...rebuilt once again!

Thanks Bent. Lyle's a good entertainer and writes some good stuff. He's been at it a long time and has lots of air play around here and on the CBC in the Maritimes especially. I'm actually surprized that it came out as well as it did. That's only the camcorder mic picking up the sound. I'd never hea...

Re: My prototype...rebuilt once again!

Hey guys.....I said I'd put something up to show what my new steel sounds like. This is a live demo we did in a 160 year old church in Almonte, ON last Monday night. No editing, no mixing, no extra overdubs, no extra reverb etc. I ain't no Emmons, but I think it came out pretty good anyway. here's t...

Re: How to make bellcranks?

Allan.... the square piece on the bottom is threaded as well and serves to lock the whole thing onto the cross shaft. If you want you can make a slot on one side of the square piece so that you can just slip it off the cross shaft if you want to remove or add one to the shaft. I didn't, but made one...
