Re: Making a start
Yes, two boards stuck together. I was thinking about shaping the tuner head in the top piece, with the bottom piece being solid underneath this. Looking at pics of other similar laps, I think that 3/4" will be fine. I was thinking of total thickness of 1-1/2", thanks for confirming that for me. I'll...

Re: Making a start
Thanks man. Think it'll be a while before I get anywhere near where you are at the moment. Yours is looking really sweet, I'd love to hear the results once you get it finished :D I have a question regarding board thicknesses. My intention is to make a solid guitar from two boards, the bottom board w...

Making a start
Well I've had a Flu / Cold since before Xmas, so haven't made a lot of progress on my Lap build. I have started doing a bit of design using FreeCad and I think I know roughly what I want to achieve, which is an 8 string Fender style guitar with legs. I'm thinking of using 2 pieces of Black Walnut gi...

Ron, that is looking great
I'll need to tap into your experience when I eventually get around to a pedal steel.

Re: Filing picks.
I'm a newbie on PS, just started using picks the start of this year. This was a big change for me, I've always used my nails for picking conventional guitar. I found they frequently slipped and dug into my flesh. I found a few threads where guys used a heatshrink wrap to help with this so I tried it...

Re: My first 'lap steel attempt'
Hi Ron, Not yet, still browsing. Some great ideas & techniques on this site. Will start after the new year. Have also decided to do some alterations to my pedal steel though, I have a pretty old GFI student model, 3 pedals - 2 knees and would like to add a couple of additional knee levers. GFI sell ...
