Re: Pedal connector question
Sierra and MSA have both used those connectors instead of a hook. If I recall correctly, my pal Tom Baker of Sierra told me that when Buddy Emmons played Sierra's he called 'em "finger biters".....

Re: Finally Making Chips!!!
Steve Black: Cnc is not necc. smoother or more accurate than manual machining. I look at the WWll manufacturing push as the golden era of American manufacturing.....lot's of highly complex and super accurate machining going on and it was all on manual machines. I have some toolmaker pals who's work ...

Re: Finally Making Chips!!!
Thanks for the compliment Paul. I have a 1986....(or is it 88...sheesh, damn geezerhood!) Matsuura MC510. I do live on a farm, but thanks to the fact that I paid a bit less than 10% of its original price (around $90k when it was new) the farm still belongs to my wife and I. The price I paid for the ...

Re: Finally Making Chips!!!
Thanks guys, D Galloway: as soon as my request for another 20 hours in each day is granted, I'll consider requests. Until then, I'm afraid my dance card is full. FYI: Bent's mill could almost certainly be retrofitted to use a CNC control....that's the easy part. Learning the programming software and...

Finally Making Chips!!!
my first "from scratch" steel is finally underway, still a big pile of parts to make, but I'm excited to finally make some chips. Bent and you other guys making this kind of stuff on your manual machines, have my deepest respect....holy sh_t these end plates would be a lot of work on a manual mill!!...

Re: My pedal steel No 2
How do you think they're function concepts differ? Obviously your's should certainly function better (smoother, more accurate, durable, etc...).
It seems both would have to use the top and bottom stop/fulcrum points as your's does.

Re: Changer Finger Design
Hi Richard, I get the sweats and break out in hives at the thought of sitting down to a pile of math equations...so I think we differ a bit there. I believe the breakage I experienced was primarily due to the extra stress riser added by running over a roller just in front of the bridge. Plug 440 hz ...

Re: Changer Finger Design
Richard, I'd love to see that tech. paper you refer to, if you ever remember where you found it originally. I did try a few different roller diameters with my roller bridge equipped changer design. I also changed the scale length...the shorter the scale length the longer the string lasted due to the...
