Requirements for membership to this forum.....

It pains me to have to make this post, but it's evident to me that I have no choice.

There have been repeated attempts to join this forum with multiple accounts using fake names and using dynamic dns services to hide their home ip. One of the accounts was actually activated and there was immediately a for sale post made with that account. The individual's account has been traced to specific IP addresses in Pennsylvania and that IP range has been banned.

Unfortunately, this leads me to institute a couple of simple rules to keep everything above board here.


--You need to register with your real name, or use the handle that you use over at the SGF or the European forums. If you do register with your handle from another forum, just shoot me over an email or a pm FROM WITHIN that forum and all will be fine. Registering with a fake name or spoofed ip will result in a permanent ban. There is just no good reason to attempt to register here with fake information.

--Please register with the ip address of your service provider. Home or work, either would be fine. No DNS services or re-direct addresses will be allowed. This whole issue got started with this individual registering with a an ip that had been blacklisted for spam relay, malware, .ru and .cn re-directs, porn and other nefarious entities.

--Please use your main email address to register. If you use a service like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo and the such, that's fine, but again, just PM me from the SGF. Disposable email accounts, like 10min mail etc., will be ignored.
2011 Edit: I can no longer keep up with accounts that register with both a nickname/handle and an email address from gmail, hotmail, yahoo and those like it. I just don't have the time to sift through and check ip information so these registrations will be immediately deleted. Again, shoot me an email with any special circumstances but remember, the information MUST be verifiable.

--If your IP resolves to Pennsylvania, please just contact me through the SGF and we'll get you set up right away.

--I know there are a number of people out there that don't want all of their forum postings archived for posterity with their real name. I can understand that. Please just post your name in the introductions area, or shoot me over a pm.

I had a guy from Penn. contact me about parts. He got my info from this forum. I felt that he was fishing. Now today I found out that a lot of my email contacts, are getting emails "from Me" trying to sell them viagra. I don't have any pills for sale, aqnd I really don't know what to do about this. If you want to talk to me about parts, I am not in Penn. Please make sure that you know who you are dealing with before you send them money.

Bobby, it sounds like your email address got hijacked.
That doesn't necessarily tie in with the guy from Pennsylvania.
Email addresses get hijacked all the time by these viagra sellers and the like.
I think one way to avoid this is to never post your email address in a posting that you write, or on any unsecured page.

Well I was a little leary of the guy who was asking about parts, He was emailing from someone elses computer. I wondered why he just didn't ask on the forum, as there are lots of us who could have helped him, if parts were realy what he was after. He seemed to know about steels, I gave him my number and he called me. I never got his whole name, but he said he was in Penn. Then I start getting emails asking me to please not send any more emails trying to sell viagra to my forum buddies! Maybe a coincidence?
