RIP Tom Pettingill

Post by sojen »

A true ICON among builders, epitome of craftsmanship, Tom Pettingill has passed away. The info I have is that he had a heart attack in early January,,being a VERY private person, this bit of sad news is just now come to light. No one could bring out the best in apeice of wood like Tom could,,,he truly "set the bar"

I never met Tom, but I did have an opportunity to play one of his lap steels once. It was a work of art, and it sounded absolutely perfect. It was its owner's most prized possession.

Sad to hear of his passing, but what a wonderful legacy. I wish I had known him.

I'm finally just catching back up a with the Pedal Steel world and saw this post about Tom. While I never had the pleasure to either meet Tom or play one of his works of art, I always appreciated his generous dispensing of fine advice. Sad, sad news, the Steel Guitar world has lost another great one.
