Burt, can I pop a few more questions at you if you don't mind... 1) Can you give me a 'close enough' dimension for the X that I have put on the extract from your diagram please.
2) Does the lowering rod always go closest to the 'wood work' in this style of changer?
3) On your Marlen, how many holes are there in each finger for raising rods?

There are four holes in the finger, any of which can be used for raising or lowering (I think)
I think that the holes nearest the body of the steel are normally used for lowering, simply because the spring that 'centers' the finger (that is attached to the end of the lowering rod) is attached to the body of the steel on Marlens.
I modified my Marlen and made a bracket for these springs, right at the far end of the steel
The dimensions of the holes, from the top of the changer finger, are as follows:
2 7/16"
2 3/4"
3 1/16"
3 3/8"
There are four holes in the finger, any of which can be used for raising or lowering (I think)
