#3 Comeau S10 4x5 (sound samples) " Update"

Post by Pat Comeau »

Here's 2 short video clips i've made today of my #3 Comeau PSG, it was recorded direct with a small camera, the guitar sounds much better than in the videos, but it gives you an idea of the sound.

Pat I think that sounded great considering the recording media. Your steel shows promise, that's for sure.
NOW: I need you to tell me exactly how you recorded this. When I try, it turns into a distorted mess.
What type of camera? ( I have a Nikon Coolpix)
Where? (I record in my shop. Bounces off of the concrete floor etc)
Level on your amp?
Is amp pointed right at camera mic?
Distance of camera from amp?

Bent,
the camera was a Canon PowerShot A570IS, and i fine that this camera records a little to bright or trebly for my taste, you have to record not too loud or you'll get distortions or clipping, the camera was about 12 feet from the amp as you can see in the video pointing straight at the amp and my studio monitors, level of the amp was 1 1/2 pre-gain and 2 post gain Peavey Session 500and , and it was recorded in my studio, i could make a better recording if i were to go into my sound card in the computer and edit the sound afterwords like most do(David Hartly) cause i have a recording studio.

I record into my computer now, and won't go back to camcorder recording.

Camcorders don't do justice to PSG's, the tone is always compromised.

Pat, the Comeau looks and sounds like a million bucks!! My hat comes off to you for a job well done!
You've got it man :-)
Now of course you just have to keep going. What will be next?
I am just a tad envious.
But wait! A little birdie told me that the mill might be running by tomorrow night. Ya mon!
