Changer fingers

Post by azureskys »

What is the best way to round the changer finger tops , where the string connects and goes over the top ?I know they have to be accurate and right on with each other.

Russ go here http://photobucket.com/Bent-SteelProject2 and look at pic # 15 and onward.

You see where I use a wooden dowel for the finger swivel? It wore out fast so I put a 1/2" piece of a bolt in there instead.
It wears just one tiny track on the sanding disk so the pain of this setup is that you have to reset the jig every so often and that takes time.
When you are all done sanding the rounds, stick all the fingers onto a 1/2" bolt (or one to conform to your finger hole) and clamp fingers in the vise(aluminum jaws in the vise!!) Sand with different grit sand paper by letting the sand paper follow the round. Sand all 10 at once. That way they will turn out the same.
