Don,

When doing some research for plans I found this site.
http://www.bluestemstrings.com
It gives some insite and suggestions for building several instruments including a lap steel with a set of plans.

Hi

I wrote a book on building a pedal steel about 10 yrs ago. I sold it for $19.95 USD. I sold a few hundred of these books all over the place. It's pretty out of date nowadays since the technology has moved on. However, I started to write a new version a few months ago but haven't finished it and likely won't for a few more months! I don't know there seems to be so many other things to do higher up on the priority list. I sold one of the books just a few weeks ago to a fellow in Buffalo, Wyoming so there's still some interest in it I guess. Anyway, the original version would get you started on what's involved, tools you need, materials, designs etc.
This is not a sales pitch....just thought you might be interested

Cheers, Mac

Keep yer tools sharp! That way you can use more of your strength guiding them AWAY from your body rather than forcing the cut!!!
