Allan, my "rule" is "1/100" - out of 100 attempts I allow for up to 99 more or less total mistakes in order to get 1 more or less perfectly right. Has worked well for me so far... 
"Mistakes are the experience we need to recognize perfection when it appears."
That is an old traditional Scottish saying that I made up just now.
