Springs...

For fun I tried, unsuccessfully, to find what we call the lower return springs.. You know, the ones with the narrow taper in one end to accept the #6 wood screw for tension adjustment. I tried "taper spring" and also looked through some of their vast holdings of springs of all types. I mean ALL types! It just boggles the mind!
Is this what you are looking for? (Scroll down the page)

Exactly Allan. Those are the springs. I used them as an example at mcmaster because I have not yet found a source for those except for other steel builders.
At $1.50 uS a piece I thought it might be cheaper out there...

You can get them for 90 cents here http://www.emmonsguitar.net/replacementparts3.htm
but I was just using McMastercarr to see if they had these hard obtainable springs, and maybe even a better price. From my searches, I don't think McMaster has them so I am wondering where the builders gets them.
Hey maybe they make their own?
From what I have seen about spring making, it cant be all that hard. It's got a lot to do with using the right wire.
Anybody have a suggestion what to use? music wire? stainless steel wire? some kind of special spring wire?

I bought a set of complete 12 springs and screws when I first did MSA my son has now . Price was around 20 - 30.00 and at the time I thought it was on the high side but I needed them right then and did not have time to look around or do anything else. I checked back with the same builder last year and he now wanted over 60.00 . That is when I decided to do something else.
I have been giving over 2.00 for springs at the hardware store and I can get 4 springs out of each one. I may order some of these as they do look nicer and less work . If they are ready for the screw it is a good deal and abought .30 more than what I have in the spring and wing nut . With no work .
