Can anyone tell me if American Tulipwood (Yellow Poplar) is any good for making pedal steels. Maple here in the UK is really expensive and where I live is virtually impossible to get hold of. I know Tulipwood is much lighter than Maple and the density is 580Kg per m3 as opposed to Maple being 770Kg per m3. What difference that makes I don't know so any help would be very much appreciated or in fact any other more common cheaper timber that would sub for Maple. Thanks. Dave.

I noticed your post on the forum.

You are not to far away from The Netherlands and after doing some research I found that they have stacks of a lumber that is called "Esdoorn" A translation will show you that it is the same as maple. Hope this helps
