starting another steel
Re: starting another steel
Jason , thank you
Re: starting another steel
Ah Jason,I don't see why you should feel you have to apologise? I can only help out where I can, my machine facilities are pretty limited I'm afraid, most parts of a steel are pretty simple and don't take much time, but others are a fairly lengthy procedure unless you have the availability of CNC.
I've thought about converting my little mill to CNC but justifying it is another matter.
This is the little mill I have and is quite inexpensive http://www.warco.co.uk/milling-machines ... chine.html
Best regards Ron Mc.

Re: starting another steel
That's looking really really nice, Russ.
Re: starting another steel
Thats looking really great Russ, and judging by that lot, you would have no problem making an 'all pull' changer.
Re: starting another steel
Thank you ,Ron , Jason . I was thinking maybe i should go with aluminum pillow blocks , it just might look better once all polished and detailed , we ll see . Im also working on a keyless tuner , not necesserly for this guitar but more to come , kinda like based on a design that Sierra had on their Crown series guitars , similar to it . I like the keyless look , The shorter body and compact size is cool i think .Sometimes your original plan does some changing during the process of building the thing, a pic of the pulling fingers for the tuner , i tried several different angles and designs for the fingers and i think this might work pretty good . They still need holes drilled and some tapped and finished to look good fingers are 3/8 thick and im going to use a 1/2 inch shaft so there will be no flexing , probly all future builds will be a 3/8 string spacing from nut to bridge for simplicity and convience sake , once again this tuner is not for this build ( for future builds ) thanks again for looking . Russ

Re: starting another steel
Russ, all my life has been involved in engineering, I have been 'Design and Development engineer' 'Manager R & D Engineering' and I can honestly say that the designs started life as drawings on a 'cigarette packet', continued onto the board, and in the process of creating, bore a slight resemblance to the idea in the first place.Sometimes your original plan does some changing during the process of building the thing,
It is all really based on 'guesswork', and at times, not a very 'educated' guess, so keep 'plugging' away my friend and put it all down to 'engineering mods' and development.
Re: starting another steel
This is a keyless guitar im expermenting with and if it works out ill do it in a 10 string format , Ill get some more pic s .

Re: starting another steel
Im using aluminum tubing for the legs mounted to a heavy aluminum block or bracket on each corner kinda looks like the sierra guitar anyway thats where i got the idea , each will have an insert for the foot and for the bracket or block , using a 1/2 inch set screw to hold them in place and 3/8 stainless bolts will hold then to the cabinet . I like Sierra guitars the Crown series with the legs outside the cabinet , I guess everyone has their likes and not likes lol. I still need to fix that switch on my lathe before i can get the legs finished the inserts need turned down to fit inside the tubing , tubing is 1 inch OD .There is a left and right side , front and back will be same as the front . I try to get a little something done every day , if its not raining its 100 degrees outside and me and the heat dont get along very well , anyways comments are welcome and thanks for looking Russ (after doing some work on the leg mounts i think they look alot better more of a finished look )
