New to the Forum

Post by Sam Lewis »

I've been playing steel for about 62 years and learn still can't play worth a hoot. Hope to master it a few more years. I'm retired from the Air Force (SMSgt) and school teacher. Be 85 my birthday and still play gigs (once a week) and love it.

Built my first pedal steel back it 1962. It was pretty rough but I played awhile; even did a two week tour with Bobby Helms. Since he didn't fire me, I guess it wasn't to far off. Built a couple more in early 70 but started again when I retired in 2005. If I can make it work, I'll include a picture of one. My approach to the changer is a bit different; the raise on the bridge end and lower at the tuning end. I use a key less tuning mechanism which is easier to make. I make every part. Gauged rollers nut and bridge.

Hello Sam and welcome to the forum.
There hasn't been a lot of activity here of late but like myself, I think there will be people wanting pictures and details on your build. You won't find a better bunch of folks willing to share their knowledge with others. Glad you're here and welcome again!!

Welcome Sam, while I can't see much in the one pic., what I can see of your steel looks mighty nice! I love double changer designs and am also a big fan of keyless tuning. Detail pics please!

Happy Holidays to all y'all!

Thank you, Ross. I'm the worlds worst at adding pics to a post but I'll try.
Have to fire up the camera.
