Bent, here is a simple sketch that I think along with the previous description covers all the details. Here are some comments, in no particular order, about the drawing:
I have a George-L pickup sitting around in a project heap, so I used that as a model for the pickup mounting tabs. Of course, a system like this could be designed around almost any pickup configuration.
I drew the rods at 1/8" diameter -- there is no reason that they could not be a little larger.
I made no attempt to draw the J-hooks to any particular size or scale.
When I was thinking of this design, I thinking of linear adjustment, not height adjustment. Perhaps two nuts could be used on each j-hook, one below the pickup mounting tab for height adjustment, and the one shown above for securing the pickup to the rods.
