Question about finishing an Emmons GS-10 rebuild

Post by brisimmons105 »

I have a late 60's - early 70's Emmons GS-10. The wood cabinet is a bit warped, and the wood underneath the veneer is cracked.

So I bought some hard maple, and have planed and cut the wood down to the exact measurements of the original. So all the parts should fit in just fine.

My question is about the finishing...Is lacquer absolutely necessary? I have no experience with finishing via lacquer, only oils.

My original plan was to do a few coats of Danish oil, but I'm not sure if that is a bad idea or not.

You can do any kind of finish that you want to do, lac , mica , poly or whatever you want however if your doing a correct restoration you ll want it like it was from the factory and the resale value of it would be better as original im thinking . Its your choice. Russ
