My Last One Completed

Post by ljs »

Hi All Again,
Here is the last lapsteel that I completed. I made this the winter of 2008. It is my favorite to date. It is made from 3/4" Cherry that I laminated to get 1 1/2". It too is a 22.5" scale length, 3/8" parallel string spacing, with thru the body. I used a Tru-Tone again on this one, and again I am very pleased with it. I used brass for the bridge and nut this time. This was the first time I used a slotted head, and I really like that design. I used a in-letted white ash for the fret board and this time I cut slots and used fret wires for the frets. I did use a volume knob this time, and since I use a volume pedal, I find it gets in the way more than anything, but it does look nice.

I know my photography skills aren't the best, but I hope the details show up good enough. This is the one I am using while waiting for my BSG, S-10 to be completed. It is tuned B E G# B E G#, low to high to utilize some of the grips and moves that I am somewhat familiar with from the E9th pedals I have played up until this past June.

This is the first time I tried this type of wiring access. It came out well I think. The picture is a bit fuzzy though.

Here you can see the jack and the Cherry volume knob, while looking across the top of the body. The Tru-Tone is there too. Thanks for looking.

Really nice. I love the headstock and the way your bridge and nut is set. How does it play?

Hi Rusty,
Thanks for the kind words. I like the way it plays though my playing ability doesn't do it justice. I presently have it set-up B, E, G#, B, E, G#, low to hi. I strung it up like this so I could somewhat mimic my E9th licks while I was without a pedal steel, and waiting for my BSG to be completed. I don't have a way to record it or anyway I don't know how to. Again thanks for looking and responding.

Thanks Eldon,
No I don't have any idea of the time I have into it. Like most of my projects, I play around with it for a while and then walk away for a few weeks, or maybe wait for parts to come in and them get back to it whenever :) . I have another one started, but then my BSG was finished and I got into playing that every free moment I had and then my wife needed some stuff done around the house.....well I'm sure a few of you know what that's like ;) . Anyway I was hoping to get the one I have started completed this winter but who knows. Thanks again for your comments.
