Some builds from 2017

Post by William Groner »

My first lap steel I built around Thanksgiving 2016. It was a red and white loose copy of a National New Yorker. I try to look at old lap steels that are obsolete, but have pleasing lines. The next one I built was a copy of a Fender Princeton. There is some darn nice looking new ideas out there and those Clinesmith's are a prime example. I made my 3rd one from aluminum and it too was modeled loosely on the Clinesmith. It is all sheet aluminum hand form in a bench vise. I am currently building one from as the add on ebay called it....."wild, bubbly, tiger stripe maple" It does fit that bill. It is dyed turquoise and looks like ocean water from the Caribbean. When done I will post that one here. Might be a few more weeks though.
