Cutting Fret Markers

Post by The German »

I put the cart befor the horse and paid a big setback. I had glued the fret board to my Lapp build and then attemper to cut fret markers,,,, freehand. Needless to say I had a bad experience and had to cut off the board and a pad I had glued for the bridge. Lots of cleanup to get my Lap body back to looking good. I have since read up and watched video on the process and making the fret board before glueing it down. I am doing some inlay to mark the frets positions on the board. I'll use a jig to cut the frets and then use an inlay mixture smeared into the fret grooves. Then sand flat. A word to those inexperienced builders as I am,, read lots, ask lots and watch lots before doing some of these tasks. Especially when one doesn't have all the proper tools.
A good instrument is like a lady. Treat it nice and it will make memories.
