General enquiries.

Post by Jason Lynch »

Hi all.
I've a few bits and pieces here to start my first Lap steel, which I'm hoping to sell on.
Is there a standard, or preferred scale length that is used? Ive seen a few plans a 22 1/2 ".

Hi Jason
There is no hard and fast rule concerning scale length, but probably the most common are 22 1/2" (short scale) and 24 1/2" (long scale). The advantage of the shorter scale length is that it is easier for bar slants, particularly at the bottom end of the neck, whilst the longer scale length offers better sustain.
cheers, Andrew
