1st Lap Steel Build

Hi, new to the forum and to lap steel building and thought I'd share my first attempt. I've made a couple of instruments before including Diddley Bos and a couple of stick dulcimers, but a friend asked if I could have a go at a lap steel. She broke her wrist a few years ago and can no longer bar or pay the guitar for too long so a lap steel seemed like the ideal solution, plus she's a big Carolyn Wonderland fan!
It's being done on a really tight budget, so the pickup is an unknown humbucker that a friend had laying around, while the rest of the hardware cost less than £14 off eBay. At the moment the bridge might be a Tele style ashtray item because it was cheap, but a dig behind the bench turned up a slab of aluminium that may well get turned into something more useful! The body is a piece of old growth spruce that was found in amongst the usual rubbish at the local builders merchants, together with some bits of birch ply I had laying about.
