Refinishing pedal steel

Post by na4it »

OK, I have went and done it, I bought a Marlen D-10 Pedal Steel, 1979 vintage. The wood has some scratches and grungy looking places. I've been told it is done in "nitrocellulose lacquer". Looking at the pics below, most of the bad places appear to be in the clear layers of the finish. What would be the easiest way to spot fix those areas, then sometime later, tear it down and do a complete refinish? By the way, I am about to put a complete set of strings on, so I could remove the keyheads to work on that area...
