Laquer Question

I need some advice. What grit ( wet or dry) is beat to sand laquer? I have been told different opinions. My clear is rough, please help

Steve, Here is the advice I got from the paint expert at Mohawk:
If you have orange peel type of roughness, you:
sand with wet/dry with grits 800/1000/1200 using mineral spirits as lubricant.I also added 1500 on my own and this worked well. Use a flat sanding block with a thin felt cushion on it. Don't rub as if you're sanding bare wood...rub a couple of times back and forth in the same spot and move on to the next spot
after 1200 you should see a semi shine and total smoothness.
Next you get a bottle of Maguiars Swirl Remover at an Auto parts store. Shake well and apply on a foam buffing pad that chucks in your drill. Do not linger but keep moving at all times. As you buff you will see more shine appear.

If possible, have a test piece to practice on - a piece that's been sanded just like your project
