Is it possible to get a decent finish with spraycan laquer???

Billy, yes it is.
Building expert Martin Weenick finished his first few steels with spray can lacquer and the result was astounding imho.
I believe he used Behlen, which you can get at Stew-Mac.

Spray can finishing is fine just follow a few rules as on the can and you ll do just fine, watch your over spray and lay your last coat on wet wet wet and you might not have to buff if it flows out well , if you have orange peel allow ample time for it to dry then wet sand (use Water with a few drops of dish washing soap in it then do your sanding untill the orange peel is gone then buff with a good compound then apply some decent polish and you ll have a finish as good as any. Thanks guys. I am building a couple mini practice steels and want to put a decent finish on them.
