Fretboard

Post by Fred Wright »

I'm building a double-neck PSG, and was wondering what determines the length of the fretboard? Most of my research indicates 24". Can someone explain the reasoning? Fred

Hi Fred and welcome to the forum :) ,

the way to determines the length of the scale is to mesure from the middle of the changer to the middle of the nut rollers bridge and that gives you the lenght of your scale, common scale lenght are 24", 24" 1/2 and 25", this is very important to have it right from fret to fret otherwise you'll never be able to play in tune, there's alot of informations on Carter Steel guitar website, the best way is to buy some fretboard from someone like Jeff Surrat at Sho-Pro or Bobby Seymour , your 12th fret should be half of the scale, ex= 12" for a 24" scale or 12" 1/4 for a 24" 1/2 and so on... ;)

hope this help.......................Pat C :)
