I know, we are a bunch of do-it-yourselfers that have the driving need to make every part for our steel guitars all by ourselves. Right down to strings and tuners if we possibly could.
This post is about legs and my suggestions as to what to do. Up to now I have been buying used legs. After 3 times of going used, I have two words for this: NEVER AGAIN. There always seems to be a discrepancy between the buyer's and the seller's opinion of what constitutes a "nice leg, no scratches and tight-fitting couplings".
Kudos to all of you who are able to make a working, lasting leg out of other parts than the standard parts found in the telescopic legs of today.
Until I get a line on a supplier for regular parts, I will continue to buy my legs ready made.
The average price seems to be around $40 per leg. Not outa this world, considering the hassle saved by not having to go to Home Depot scrounging parts that "just might work"
Here is a steel builder who will make legs to your specs

One here in Canada is Wayne Link of Linkon Pedal steel in Winnipeg
http://www.mts.net/~linkon/ His prices might seem high but consider some savings in exchange rate, shipping and no customs&duty for Canadian customers
Fulawka has them also http://www.ambrec.com/fulawka/accessories.html Call ahead and check for possibly updated prices.
Just my 2 cents on that subject

Re: Steel guitar legs
I have a couple or three neighbors that I would be happy to rip the legs off of if you want them...

Only nuts eat squirrels.
Keep yer tools sharp! That way you can use more of your strength guiding them AWAY from your body rather than forcing the cut!!!

Re: Steel guitar legs
We make the legs for the top steel guitar manufacturers, and for small builders as well. Top quality polished chrome over steel legs retail at $139 for a set of four legs. On request, we often give away a free tuning wrench with the sale of a set of legs (because where there are 4 legs needed there is probably a pedal steel that needs a wrench too).
Most steel guitar these days use legs that mount by a 1/2 x 13 thread. There are some older standards around too, such as 58x11 on a couple of brands and the older 3/4x10 on the Fender stringmaster non-pedal. If you are building a steel, it is best to stay with the current standard which has been used since Sho-Bud in the 1960's. That is the 1/2x13. Most steel guitar use this standard.
We are at some of the steel guitar shows such as St Louis and Dallas. But you can order online too at suncoasteasycom@yahoo.com or take a look at steelguitarparts.net.
Hope it helps,
Ray
