Well Bent, What do You Think?
I used 1/8" Lexan for the top and bottom of the bobbin. The pole pieces are 1/8" steel rod cut to approximately 3/4" length. I intend to use a bar magnet rather than magnetic pole pieces. Now I have to scope out some #42 wire. Isn't it amazing what you can do with a drill, hacksaw, and file. Just wait till I turn the wife's sewing machine into a pickup winder. I sure hope the lexan is flexible enough.

I'm not having any luck. Let's try again. File is to big. I will down side shortly.
Re: Well Bent, What do You Think?
Hey Paul, Whatever works you use it. I doubt if you want too much flex in the bobbin. If too springy, I am afraid the plastic will work loose from the pole pieces. There is no glue or nothing holding them in the holes - just a tight fit.
As for the wire, keep checking on Ebay..do a search typing in 42 AWG.
Hope you get the pics on here - looking forward to seeing how you do it.

Paul, looks good so far. What are the dimensions of you pup. Also are you designing an E9 or C6. I'm about to embark in a pup myself (8 pole C6 with 3/8 inch spacing). Since individual parts tend to influence other parts your dimensions would be most helpful. Thanks.

Paul on closer inspection it looks like 3/8 inch pole spacing just going by the 1/8 inch lexan pieces.

Re: Well Bent, What do You Think?
Hi Eldon, The pole pieces are 3/16" steel rod cut to 3/4" lengths. The spacing is 3/8" center to center for each. The bobbin measures 4" X 1-1/2" X 3/4" and the material I used is 1/8" Lexan ( Spelling might be wrong it is like Plexiglas) This will give me a 1/2" inside diameter for the coil winding. The pole pieces measure approximately 2-7/8" from the outer edge of the first to the outer edge of the eighth. I am going to use a 3" bar magnet instead of magnetic pole pieces. Hope this has been useful.

Re: Well Bent, What do You Think?
Ya me again! Eldon I am in the process of building an 8 string C6 console as you have seen in my post in the lap steel section. Once again thanks for the vote of confidence. I would appreciate a copy of your copedent for your latest creation if you don't mind. You see a lot of E9, but very few C6.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
