pickup measurements

Post by Bent »

Do any of you have a pickup lying there..or one mounted in your steel that you could take some measurements for me?
-Bottom plate of bobbin L by W
-Top plate of bobbin L by W
-Thickness of bobbin plastic material
- Distance between top and bottom bobbin plate, inside measurement
This is for a single coil pup. All I have here are humbuckers

Thanks so much for your help!

howdy Bent,

Here's some dims from the pickup in my Lamar: I measured the pickup in the guitar with a small ruler...so the measurements are +/- .010 or so

top plate: 4.031" (4 1/32")x 1.125" (1 1/8")
Bot plate: 4.031" x 1.469" (1 15/32")
bobbin thickness: can't get that one
Dist between top and bot. plates: .594" (19/32")

I hope that's some help

all the best,
Ross

Thanks Eldon my man. Nice to get measurements of several different pups.
Comforting to know the thickness of the plates. I was worried that my 1-16" would be too thin and flimsy.
I ordered 1/4" magnets. That should be ok..better coverage under the string I would think(if the string spacing should be a wee bit off)

I got the winder pretty much finished. Your motor works great, likewise the variable speed control, even though it is stepped.

Soon as I get everything running right I'll post a pic for y'all.

Bent those 1/4" magnets sound like a good idea.
