Re: Changer Finger Design
Ross Shafer - Before the fire destroyed my home this past June, I had copious printouts of technical papers on a variety of subjects. One such paper investigated the effect of terminating a vibrating string on a rounded object as opposed to a "knife-edge" configuration as regards the decay time (sus...

Re: Where / how do you attach the lower-return stop plate?
Georg - In reference to your first paragraph, you will recall that the Dekley that I bought from you had the stop plate attached to the block into which the leg theads are cut and, at the other end, to a boss which sticks out from the end plate. You'll also recall that the aprons, threaded blocks, a...

Re: Return spring strength
I'm certainly not dunning Burt's response but, if you go to McMaster-Carr, you'll find a wide range of springs of various diameters, end configurations, starting tension, spring rate and lengths - both starting and extended. Once upon a time, I had used a decent spring scale to measure the strength ...

Stormy -
Are you referring to the following tuning technique: - When a raise is activated on a string, the lower finger should not leave the stop. If it does, then tighten the return spring screw until it remains fixed.

Dave - A word of caution to you. I have a couple of my "boys" from New Jersey with bags packed and ready to jump on a plane on a moments notice. Should you leave your house for just a matter of minutes, that instrument will be on its way to this side of pond! I absolutely love it and am slobbering a...

Re: Antonation on steel guitar
The early 70's Fender PS210 had a roller bridge placed in front of the changer. I suspect that it had more to do with increasing decay time (sustain) than anything. PSG's do not have an intonation problem - as long as your bar is dead straight across the strings of a well-tuned instrument - and - th...

Glad to see you back, Georg -
Good advice for the second reconstruction of the Dekley. Will do.
