That's a reasonable enough price, Richard, but after speaking with RS (as much help as a fart in a spacesuit!) and the manufacturer, it seems that particular type of cutter is made for a magnetic drill, and won't fit in a standard drill press. unless you remove the chuck and replace it with an arbor...

a majority of steels use a 1/2 inch 13tpi thread. not sure if emmons follows that.

I'm starting my own build now, and contemplating round bar vs Square. Round provides less manufacturing problems. how do you find it?

There are no hard and fast rules, really. You can make your pedal board any size you want. I've seen solid wooden ones, and aluminium channel ones. Tube would be different for sure. Try a one inch diameter. Might look beefy enough, without being overbearing. How are you attaching the pedals?
