Very well may be , I would go with what Bent told you the conversion chart(s) I looked at were pretty convoluted with about 6 different answers. I'm looking at mine right now and would have to say that 18 sounds like the gauge I have. 8-)I just micrometered it and it is indeed #18 gauge music wire. ...

Iuse .029 diameter which is #12 gauge music ( according to a google search) wire as it was a recommendation from Bent, and Marty Weenick....Stormy

So are you aiming at reducing the cabinet depth (top to bottom dimension)? Ron what did you do ? Maybe change the scissor rivet position to gain a bit of leverage?or maybe the distance from the axle center to the pivot rivet ?

Dave what Ron said as to mounting to the deck surface is right on the money. Dave this ShoBud housing (specifically for a Super Pro) is 4.75" x 4.75"..the pickup whole is 4.5"x 1.375" I would make my pickup cutout more like Ron spec. no less than 1.75 and 2" if it fits your housing, I said 1.75" referencing my Bud housing it apparently is cutout for stock Bud pickups but I'm...
