Re: First LS project: 8strings New yorker replica

Dunno if you can get such things where you are but I have been using real bone for nut making. I got the bone at the local pet store in the 'dog bone' bin. It was a large marrow bone that had been cleaned out and then stuffed with something or other that dogs like. I band sawed if in half and cleane...

Re: Fretboard Layout Drawings...

I have had a few requests for these drawings as a set. Just so that you know, if you want individual scale lengths I will attach them as .pdf drawings, if you want the whole set then you will receive a .zip file.
Let me know if that is a problem and I will try to accommodate your needs.

Re: Strings

I forget where I came across these but there is, somewhere, a manufacturer making what they call a 'ground wound' string. Instead of using the flat tape to put the wind on, they are using standard round section wire which is then (after winding) ground to a flat surface on the outside of the string....

Re: Fretboard Layout Drawings...

Just an update: Currently available scale lengths are 22 1/2", 23", 23 1/2", 24", 24 1/4", 24 1/2", 25", 26"... These sizes are ready and can be emailed quite quickly. Other sizes can take a few days as I need to make the drawings. Don't forget, I need an email address if you want these - I can't se...

Re: What sort of wood?

I just know that the 'purists' will hate it but I have long been of the same mind. Oh, I know the theory and the thoughts that most have but my own experience doesn't agree. I have actually seen and touched that Taylor made from the pallet. The story behind it is really good, well worth looking up. ...

Re: Double changer idea

There seems to be some concern about the screw end moving over the string holder on the 'lower' changer here so I did a 'quick and dirty' drawing to see. Here it is if anyone is interested... Macanim.gif There is some movement but as Mac, himself, has said in the past, hard anodizing works wonders o...

Re: Changer info request...

I can tell you how many degrees my 4th string (0.014 plain) moves through to get a full tone raise (just over 7 degrees) and a half tone lower (just over 3 degrees), so we can extrapolate this info to arrive at an educated guess of at least 14 degrees of rotation to go from D to F# (24 inch scale l...
