Re: Dual 8 Stringmaster

Alan, I do not have a drawing, but I did get these measurements from the honorable Mr. John Tipka a while back. There's a chance he might also have a drawing, and this would probably come in handy, anyway. Dimensions of a Fender Stringmaster - John Tipka - Reynoldsburg,OH Post Posted 21 Mar 2009 7:0...

Re: New Bridge

First off, just want to say I like the design. It looks like a great bridge, anyway you string it. I would lean toward putting them through the back end of of the bridge, cutting down on the amount of extra string that would have to be stretched to do any behind the bard pulling. I've never been cle...

Re: something i didnt know

I think having a locking nut pretty requires having some kind of fine tuners for each string at the bridge end. Otherwise, any fine tuning during practice or performance would require removal of the locking part of the nut. This sounds like it could work well on a non pedal instrument, as long as th...

Re: Calling it quits !!

Scott, I'm pretty much a new comer to the forums, and I can't tell you how much I've learned from you. I eagerly look for your posts, and the ones that aren't over my head give me much to chew on. I hope your doctors can figure out a plan that let's you stay as involved in steel as much as you want ...

Re: Building lap steel

My friend Ryan Rukavina, out in Missoula, Montana, made me a very nice template for routing just what you are talking about for a ver reasonable cost. Mine is for an 8 string, set up for 3/8" string spacing. I think the spacing actually may work best with certain models of tuners. Ryan is a first cl...

Carco Clave's 10 string non pedal

I posted this over on the SGF as well. I am very interested to know any details of Carco Clave's 10 string lap steel seen in some of Rick Alexander's videos. I understand he built it. Anyone know what tuning(s) he uses? Same tuning on "Over the Rainbow" as on "Hey Good Lookin'"? What scale length? S...

Re: Semi-hollow body for lap steel?

I've never built any hollow, or chambered instruments, but I do believe in the concept of "tap tuning" a body. If you have some way of check what frequencies a block of wood makes when tapped, it only makes sense that it might be better for sustain, at least in certain keys, to shape it to be harmon...
