We Had A Fire - All Is Lost
I posted this over on the SGF but thought that I'd bring y'all up to date. We had a fire last Friday. Nothing left. I won't bore you with all of the details except to say that my music room was first rate. A couple hundred of my prized vinyls are gone as are an equal number of CD's. My rack and all ...

Re: Next one: Hollow squareneck wood tricone
Went to the Flugerguitars site. That guy has some beautiful looking instruments! Best suggestion is to make up that test piece that I spoke of and use the iron. See if you can bend it around a mandrel which has a gentle curve. If if falls apart then there's not much lost. Next best suggestion is to ...

Re: Next one: Hollow squareneck wood tricone
I'll see if I can help. Titebond II and Titebond III are recommended for outdoor use - sun, rain etc. Plain old Titebond is not. Which one did you use? You do not have a compound bend. A compound bend is one in which the wood would be bent in one direction and then bent, again, at 90 degrees to the ...

Re: Next one: Hollow squareneck wood tricone
Bend the back to a desired shape? Is it a simple bend or a compound bend? Is the glue that you used to mate the pieces waterproof?

Re: Next one: Hollow squareneck wood tricone
Dang it, Man! You make molds that are prettier than some folks entire guitars!
Yeah, I know - They'll still be usable for the 5th, 10th and 20th instruments. Good show.

Re: Making a start
Hey Jif - I may be able to steer you to some information regarding the Alumitone pickup. http://music-electronics-forum.com/t19305/ Those guys were quite serious about a home-brew version and you'll find it interesting. As to a solid-state amplification system versus the low impedance (microphone?) ...

Re: New Lap Steel from china (maybe)
Johnny - I think that maybe you should cut yourself some slack. I, too, am an old goat - 77 years - played guitar for 55 years but didn't attempt playing the steel until I was 72. Am I going to blow Buddy Emmons, Paul Franklin or Buck Reid off of the bandstand? Not hardly - but the joy of wringing j...

Re: New Lap Steel from china (maybe)
Johnny - Steve Smith is, of course, correct. I have a somewhat high-minded (high-brow?) approach to this question of Chinese imports. Simple economics dictates that, in the quest for inexpensive, mass-produced items, the quality must, inevitably, suffer. Consider only a handful of names: - D'Angelic...

Larry or James - What is a "Spam Link"?
About a week ago, James posted a notice regarding the prohibition of "Spam Links". As I understand it, a "Spam Link" is made available such that a member may access a site which contains information valuable to the guitar builder. The converse is that the owner of the supplied link can, in turn, use...
