Re: keyless guitar- any more ideas for lowering at this end?

Yeah... I'm familiar with that kind of setup. Only trouble in my case is that I've got to be able to "tune" the string as well as raising or lowering it. Thanks anyway, but I may have to think of some other scheme. Normally I build double changer guitars but with the normal keyhead. I've built maybe...

Dave...is something like this what you had in mind? Funny I never thought of something as simple as this It'd probably work if you get stops etc. in the right places
Thanks a bunch!

Re: keyless guitar- any more ideas for lowering at this end?

Thanks so much folks..... I've been fiddlin' around with various ideas some today. I like the idea of tuning from the end anyway better. And by rotating the finger around some it compacts the whole thingee. Still have the "scraping" to deal with. I've never had much luck finding nylon screws (bolts)...

keyless guitar- any more ideas for lowering at this end?

Remember way back I posted pics on a lowering changer I'd thought up for a keyless guitar. I'm just getting started to build a keyless SD12 for myself. I had most of the parts made for that lowering function and it worked fine on my test bed. Looks kinda' dopey though, and seems to stick up too far....

Another SD10 finished

Just finished another SD10 for a customer as a Christmas present from his wife. Just a regular pull/release E9th with 3/4.
Cabinet is solid 3/4" butternut. Wood is nearly 100 years old as far as I can figure. Beautiful stuff....and I've got enough left for perhaps 3 more guitars.

Re: Meet Flipper

You're sure making this one look really good. I've never seen this mechanism up close, but I always wondered how the rods going through the holes without the barrels don't get caught and screw up the tuning. Are the holes just big enough that this doesn't happen when a rack without a barrel rotates?...

Re: If I were to build a pedal steel

Heck no... Use a regular wood cutting blade 3/8" wide by 6 TPI (teeth per inch). You can cut anything from 1/16" aluminum sheet to 3/4" plate. Use regular 10-30 motor oil for lubricant. I've heard that kerosene or power steering fluid is better but I don't like it and it smells too much. I put the l...

Re: If I were to build a pedal steel

Hi Shobudmaverick.... You don't need a milling machine really. As far as shaping the metal parts, a bandsaw and one of those small 1" belt sanders (Delta or similar) is all you need. I've built about 20 pedal steels with just that plus assorted other electric tools. I'm building a CNC mill right now...
