Re: WOOD
In my case, the first lap steel I built was a piece of textolite with a fretted guitar neck bolted to it. It came from a trash dumpster where I worked. Someone apparently was going to build a fretted guitar with it and gave up. The second was from a slab of hard maple that I acquired from my brother...

Re: Lap Steel Intonation
So then are we as musicians moving and placing the bar on a slight angle subconsciously to bring it in tune? I know in the past I have been told that one of my weaknesses on the steel guitar was not keeping the bar perpendicular to the strings. On a guitar the bridge is slanted or adjusted for prope...

Re: Lap Steel Intonation
I am looking forward to an explanation regarding this. As I understand it the difference lies in the fact that the string on a fretted instrument is pushed down to the fret, whereas the lap steel the bar is placed on top of the string, but I know that explanation doesn't really answer the question n...

Re: starting another steel
Well I'm still here and come for a visit every day. I follow along quietly watching, listening and learning. I even sometimes post a tidbit or two, maybe even a question. I'm following along on your build and congratulate you on your progress and look forward to seeing more. Thanks for posting. LaVern

Re: Well it's finally finished
Thank you Ron, I appreciate your advice with my wiring. In regards to the wiring, the first time I wired it I had the volume backwards. I don't know exactly what I did, I just started over and re-wired it and it works as it should, clockwise increases volume.

And 2 more. I'm not sure the pictures do the finish justice. I know I was very pleased. I did not use a filler before spraying the lacquer and it seems to work for me. Thanks for looking.

Well it's finally finished
Hi All, Well after quite a long time I have finally finished my latest 8 string lap steel. It is made from a piece of White Ash that I harvested from my fathers farm about 14 yrs. ago. It is a 8 string with a 25-1/2 inch scale length. I used 1/2" round brass for the bridge and nut. It has a Wallace ...

Re: Help with pots for my lap steel build
Ron, I want to thank you again. I have it wired up just as you said and it works and is now finished. I have tried to take some pictures but my photography isn't that good. I will try again and if I can get some pictures to post here. It is my first lapsteel using lacquer and I am quite pleased with...
