Re: Bass steel copendant

Well you have F , A , C# , E there twice with that tuning, so definatly stick with those 4 if you used that tuning? Any open chord would be something to play around with,. D A D F# maybe? Are You going to use bass strings? That could probably be pretty cool

Re: Here goes, First Lap steel build

Here's the latest update, we had a few warmer days here so I was able to get a fire going and do some gluing. I used maple veneer for the frets http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa312/00amunet00/B1F166F9-9A96-45DF-B687-D584C16C3D6F-4989-000002A32DDD5A88_zpsc09c98f7.jpg http://i199.photobucket.com/a...

Grounding a humbucker

Hey, I'm building a lap steel and I've decided to just use a tone control and no volume, I'm using a Gibson pickup. The guitar is going to have an aluminum bridge on it, my question is,. Is there any other option for grounding other than to the bridge? I assume not, buy I'm already tight for space I...

Re: Neck scale / keyhead positioning

Very helpful insight on the scale length, I never looked at it that way. I have a stand up bass I slap around a bit and I guess that explains why I can be off by a mile and still manage to hit the notes here and there!

Re: Here goes, First Lap steel build

That does make sence,. I was thinking why the spacing from fret to nut would be different, but now that I think about it I have seen nuts slotted for intonation. Thanks for the link

Re: Here goes, First Lap steel build

That is handy! Looking through the charts,. Why are some of the fret spacings slightly different for each string? How would you go about that,. Or is that chart just being super technical?

Re: Here goes, First Lap steel build

Thank you Bent, I'm pretty excited to see that wood with finish on it,. But that's still a long way away haha! I got the sides glued to the back today, and marked the frets out. I'm still not sure what I'm going to use for fret markers, I have some maple veneer I thought I'd use,. Or my other though...

Re: Here goes, First Lap steel build

Well I havnt gotten much done in the last few days, it's been too cold here and I can't get my shop warm enough. I took the sides out of the moulds and set the top on them just to get an idea of how it'll look once I can glue it up. I'm expecting a package from StewMac today with the finishing touch...
