Re: Black Limba Lap Steel
Allan, no I am talking about screws straight through the routed-out mortise and into the mating surface. The screw is counter-sunk.

Re: Black Limba Lap Steel
Larry, I can't see clearly enough, but is this a three-level steel? I mean, is it one with 3 necks? In my guitars I used biscuits - about 6 of them and glue. This is a bit tricky where you offset the planks by as much as 1/4" to the other. You get very little wood left over on one side after cutting...

How to make bell cranks
The idea was to show you the way I made aluminum bell cranks with just a table saw. I cut about 50 bell cranks very safely and quite accurately. I have the procedure written down w/photos and was ready to post - then reconsidered. I thought it would be a tad irresponsible to post this on a forum whe...

BenRom4
Like Jesse suggests in his introduction, I am starting a thread in Pedal Steel. Thanks for the kind words, Jesse. You said you would post pics of the very start of BenRom4. I'll leave you to it since you are the draftsman. Just because the thread is named as such, it don't necessarily mean that proj...

Re: Black Limba Lap Steel
Looks mighty fine Larry, tool toys are nice, in my former career in the bush you sometimes had to make things work with what you had on hand. A bit of elbowgrease and ingenuity goes a long way. Like you say, don't discount hand tools. I'm sure Bent and others would atest to this. Eldon, you're righ...

section suggestion
Larry, I would like to suggest one more section topic. How about we have one called Finishing ? To me this part of instrument building is such an important issue. I learned, somewhat the hard way, that proper finishing is certainly not something that is mastered overnight. Also, we would share safet...

Re: Oh look! A brand new forum...
I'll echo Allan here in saying Good job, Larry!
I also like the clean look and also the familiar look from the SGF.
One difference I notice though is ..there is no "Upload picture" box to click on, so I guess we use the upload attachment feature below. Same thing only different!

Re: Black Limba Lap Steel
Larry, It'll be interesting to follow this one from the word go. I have always loved to see a thing of beauty being transformed from a raw piece of wood.
Good luck with your project!
