As I understand it the difference lies in the fact that the string on a fretted instrument is pushed down to the fret, whereas the lap steel the bar is placed on top of the string, but I know that explanation doesn't really answer the question n...

Thank you Ron, I appreciate your advice with my wiring. In regards to the wiring, the first time I wired it I had the volume backwards. I don't know exactly what I did, I just started over and re-wired it and it works as it should, clockwise increases volume.

And 2 more. I'm not sure the pictures do the finish justice. I know I was very pleased. I did not use a filler before spraying the lacquer and it seems to work for me. Thanks for looking.
