Re: Split screws
Hi Mac, I like to think of the split screw as a "final lower screw". Anywhere you are lowering a string one note and then another one, you tune that last or final note the first half tone and use the nylon nut to accomplish this. Then, while holding the knee lever in, turn the 9th string nut so it j...

Re: Finally!!
Ross, I don't know what to say! There are so many unique details on this guitar...so many things I could "borrow". I see something like this and I am made aware of my own shortcomings and areas that I need to brush up on. I love your Blanton style bell cranks: Is the body brass? Would you give a det...

Re: 009 Amber; 010 Red2
Hi Paul,
I use exclusively the dyes from StewMac now. It wasn't exactly the red I was looking for but closer than the leather dyes.

009 Amber; 010 Red2
Things are going too slow - must be my age... Anyway got these 2 guitars in the works. Amber is going to Per Berner in Sweden and Red2 is going to my partner, George Leite just east of here. Got them sanded, buffed and polished just today. Ten coats of lacquer this time. Wet sanding with 600, 800, 1...

Re: Machining Services
Hi Gary,
Now this is something that is sorely needed here. I had ambitions to do some of what you are doing, earlier. But seeing as I am not a machinist, just a hobbyist, I have come to realize that some things are handled best by an expert! I wish you luck my friend!

Re: Cutting channels for inlay banding
Yes, we're a quiet bunch these days. Might be a good sign...that we are all busy with a project. As for me, I have 009 and 010 on the bench. I have the router mounted in the router table and pass the cabinet alongside the cutter. The cutter is a side-cutting one with a pilot bearing. I had it ground...

Well, 008 is ready for shipping. Just thought I would mention if you want to hear it you can go to my web site on Facebook. It is called BenRom Pedal Steel guitars. My friend Dale Rivard plays Borrowed Angel. Dale is the man who comes and test drives every guitar I make!

Re: Another Sheffield
Dave your latest steel is more spectacular than the previous ones. You do know the art of finishing. You also know the art of making a solid, well built steel with great tone. Thanks so much for your kind words on my efforts. It becomes a labour of love. To have people of your quality praise my effo...
