Re inversions

Well, now you know how to use the NC CM13 neck layout to determine what can and cannot be done on the CM13 structure. I am fully aware that if you find what you are looking for, it won’t be the way you want it (wrong fingers, too many fingers required, too many changes needed, doesn’t do it like my ...

Re: chord types, count, and locations

First to answer some comment from the SGF. RE “excessive parallelism “…what is “excessive” is a matter of taste, and a matter of usage. If you have something, you can use it or not…if you don’t have something, you can’t use it. RE “marching”…there are other ways to use the chords in the illustration...

Re: 13 series and notation

For those that speak/read notation, here is a bit of the 13 series in that form. First, the basis of the 13 series as 7 tone chords in the key of C (I actually tune to Bb for the sake of string 1). CHART 1. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i287/edpackard/PSG%20TUNING%20STRUCTURES/CM13EX1/CM13NOTESB...

Re: Chords and build

The above chart has E as a V chord = error, S/B VI...corrected in next chart. The chart below shows the "tune" with chosen chords from the chord location chart. The fret, string, and choices that give the chord are shown in the colms at the right. Three choices of chord are given (3,4,5 tones). The ...

Re: Chords and build chord list etc

Here is a sample of the "choice" available chords for the CM13EX1 tuning/setup. only a portion of those available are shown... for the 0(NC), 1, and 2 changes activated. What can be seen is the number of chord locations for any given chord type. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i287/edpackard/PSG%2...

Re: Chords and build...a wrap?

Thanks to those that have participated in the thread…mostly from the Steel Guitar Forum, and some private communications. Now to address some issues raised in the thread: Any melody or harmony line can be “played” on a single string. There are many one stringed instrument’s in the world on which are...

Re: Chords and build

The past, present, and future of the 13 series. As far as I know, there have been no other attempts to define the 13th series tuning/setup on the PSG…it is however not too far from that used on the concert harp with less strings and more changes. A few decades ago I was reading/studying a book by Ar...

Re: Do we need a roller-style nut?

Gary..Georg, On the BEAST I use an interchangeable rod as a non rotating "nut", but on the players right. The amount of back and forth motion across it, or maybe the ultrasonic machining effect caused by the vibrating string caused a bit of grooving on a brass rod...not as much as is caused to the a...

Re: Chords and build

OK, now to put the train back on the track: The 13 series structure is an experiment to see how many chords can be placed in a simple tuning/setup. Because it is a stacked thirds format, and chords are made of the "odd" intervals it follows an easy to remember approach to chord root location. To ill...
